Where’s Your Passion?

Where is your passion?  What ignites that spark within?
Processing my latest images from a business trip to Las Vegas reminded me of what I am passionate about and certainly what I am not.  Every Vegas image was a chore to process.  No fun.  No desire.  No spark.  I made it through six images with many [...]

Photography is dead. Long live photography!

A very well respected photographer spoke at our last CapMac photography group meeting whose main passion was portraiture via black and white film photography — his art is excellent.  While he embraced digital workflow in his commercial work he called HDR the “tube top of modern photography” and he did not veil his disdain for [...]

Get Your Butt Out of Bed

Just get your butt out of bed, pick up your camera and tripod, and catch a sunrise.  Need more help than that?  Go read “The War of Art” by Pressfield.

Postcard Style

Remember the saturated color of postcards?  That look is easy to accomplish with HDR.  Some subject matter is just perfect for it.

Sunsets

Where does a sunset exist?  In the sky above the treeline?  In the water before a waterfall?  In the photographer’s eye of a father and son sharing an adventure?  In memory to be stored up for a rainy day?

To HDR or not to HDR?

I did not fully understand the the term “the tail is wagging the dog” when I first heard that saying years ago.  Now, with photography I fully do realize its meaning.  And I have HDR to thank for that.  High Dynamic Range image processing results in a wider range of light *and* higher intensity levels [...]

Light

Light.   Direct sun, indirect, hazy clouded, sunrise, sunset, reflected, full moon-lit, and on and on…  It is the facilitation of all that is photography and the other visual arts.  Study it before trying to capture it.
I sat at this small pond a long while before I touched my camera.  The light changed the trees, plants, [...]
